This past Tuesday, March 7, the Cape Fear softball team played away against Lumberton. The Colts took home the big win with a final score of 6-2. They have started their season off strong, making this game their third win so far.
The returning starters consist of Kailee Meredith, Allie Dawson, Gracey Horne, Kalilah Dela Cruz, Alex Serbio, Lex Glemaker, Noni MacFadden, Sabria Hanson, Olivia Melvin, and Avery Jones. This team works together extremely well, which is a big reason for this season’s success.
Pitcher Lex Glemaker struck out a total of seven batters. Kailee Meredith caught a line drive and then threw it to first baseman Olivia Melvin, completing a very impressive double play. Then third baseman Alex Serbio had a diving catch to finish the inning, bringing the Colts up to bat.
“At third base you have to be ready and stay on your feet at all times,” said Alex Serbio.
Kailee Meredith has earned one of the highest batting averages of .667. She also has the highest on base average of .500. She’s on track for a successful senior season!
Sophomore Kalilah Dela Cruz made a great catch in left field, getting another out for Cape Fear.
Alex Serbio, Kailee Meredith, and Lex Glemaker were named players of the game.
“A winner is a person who gets up one more time when they were knocked down,” said Kailee Meredith.
