The Cape Fear Men’s Lacrosse team is off to a very good start with a 2-1 Conference record (3-1 Overall). The team sits at 3rd overall in the conference.

On February 27th, the boys beat Jack Britt to win their first game of the season. The Colts beat Britt despite being down in the first quarter 5-1. This comeback was made possible by the efforts of Jack Donatelle and Collin Finley. Donatelle had 7 goals and Finley had 4 assists which helped bring the team up to a 17-6 win over the Buccaneers. They will face the Bucs again at home on March 16th.

Later that week on March 2nd, the Colts played against their home-town rival Terry Sanford. The team’s defensive players did a good job of keeping the Bulldog’s offense at bay. The Colts managed to keep the score close but unfortunately came up short with a score 7-8. The Colts will face them again on March 20th.

The Colts next played J.H. Rose last Monday, which was their first non-conference game last week. The boys regained their momentum by coming up with a very impressive 12-2 win. The Colts lockdown defense kept Rose’s offensive production extremely low. This gave star shooter Collin Finley the lane to score 6 goals for the Colts.

“The J.H. Rose’s game was very good. A lot of players stepped up and finally did the things we wanted them to do,” said Finley after the game.

The team faced Union Pines at home on Thursday, winning with a score of 8-3. Dawson Petzel aided in this win with 12 saves. Finley finished the game with 3 goals, and 4 assists. This puts Petzel at 400 career saves and Finley at 200 career points. Both players continue to add onto their school records.

“I feel the team has been off to a great start to the season. Our record this season is not the only thing that proves that we’ve been getting better every single week. It’s amazing how we are starting to make a name for ourselves in North Carolina lacrosse,” said Dawson Petzel.

The Colts are planning to continue on their impressive win streak by mauling the Grays Creek Bears tomorrow night. They will also face Jack Britt again at home on March 16th. Come out and support your Boy’s Lacrosse team!!!
