The lights will shine a little brighter this Friday night in Colt County as we honor Aydin Leonard, our athlete of the week. Aydin, a senior football star, has been tearing up the field, proving hard work and dedication really do pay off. We are not only recognizing Aydin for his athletic performance, but also his undeniable commitment to his teammates and his unyielding love for The Game.
“He’s a great enough man; I’d let him be my son in law,” says his English teacher, Mr. Meninger.
From an early age, Aydin was set on a path to success! Thanks to Alec, his idol and older brother, seeing how well he performed spiked a hunger in him, fueling his passion and setting him onto the course he is on right now. Although Aydin’s biggest inspiration was Alec, and that is where his throwing arm came from, he wouldn’t be where he is without the support of his family, friends and teammates. Aydin tells us about his undying love for the game, but also how the game wouldn’t work without his team because he understands individual brilliance could only take him so far and the true success was built on the foundation of the team.
Before every game, Aydin has a ritual as sacred as the sport itself: Glock 9 on repeat, followed by his favorite UNC hype video. Although it is just music and a video, it was his fuel, igniting something in him that propelled onto the field, ready to do something. This deep preparation allowed him to remain calm even during the highest-stakes games.
“I just try to stay level headed, knowing I’ve been here before,” says Aydin.
Aydin’s heart is set on playing college football keeping that Friday Night Lights feeling in his blood any time of the day. The roar of the crowd, the team and the thrill of the game. However, he is also a realist, understanding that a path to college sports isn’t always a straight line. With a reasonable approach, Aydin has his sights set on a solid backup plan, being cybersecurity. Aydin is determined to make his mark, which he has greatly done here, blending passion with his pursuit of life goals.
Aydin isn’t just playing football for himself, he’s playing for cape fear; he’s eager to leave his everlasting mark on his community. More than just an athlete, he aspires to be known as an all-around guy, someone who contributes positively on and off the field. He wants to be the kind of person who lifts spirits, a friend who offers support, and a leader who inspires others to be their best.
“Aydin isn’t just an incredible athlete—he’s also one of the kindest, hardest-working people I know. His positive attitude and resilience motivate me both on and off the field,” says his girlfriend Jordan Dean.
In the end, Aydin is more than just athlete of the week with dreams of playing college ball, he’s a young man determined to make a difference, on and off the field. With his sights set on leaving an everlasting mark on cape fear, Aydin strives to be remembered not just for his athletic standers, but as an all around guy, someone people genuinely enjoyed being around. Whether he was intercepting passes, scoring touchdowns or simply just being a helping hand. Aydin’s commitment to excellence and his genuine care for others makes him a true standout for this role.
“Aydin has always been one of the most committed and competitive athletes I know, even if it’s not a sport he will try his best. Having Aydin as a friend feels like having someone support you no matter what and be in your corner even if nobody else is; he is my best friend,” says friend and teammate Brandon Patton.
Aydin continues to embody the ideals of Colt Nation. He does the right things in and out of the classroom! Congratulations, Aydin! You deserve it.
