The Colts grabbed a 2-1 win Tuesday night against the Topsail Pirates to put them on a 3 game win streak with just one game left in the season.

The team had to face one of their toughest challenges yet this season, going against UNC commit Rhett Britt, who is one of the top pitchers in the state.

This was a big win for the Colts, especially with Topsail being a top 25 team in the state, as well as a state title contender heading into the playoffs.

Cape Fear’s 2 runs were brought in by Nick Serbio and Tres Daughtry, off of a double from Brycen Tally and a triple from Davis Spruill, respectively.

Sophomore pitcher Eason Turner had an outstanding game, only allowing 4 hits and 1 run through 6 innings against a top 25 team in North Carolina.

“I was able to get a bunch of swings and misses on my fastballs; they couldn’t really get to it, and my curve did pretty well too,” said Turner. “Knowing my team is depending on me gives me a bunch of confidence and I just have to go out there and do my thing and not get overwhelmed.”

The Colt defense was up to the challenge against the Pirates, fielding clean and keeping a zero in the error column for the night. The outfield came in especially clutch, as the trio of freshman right fielder Jayden Brewington, junior center fielder Landon Underwood, and sophomore right fielder Brayden Payne patrolled the green all night, rarely letting a ball drop to the turf.

Brewington and Underwood both had spectacular catches to keep the Pirate scoring at a single run. Underwood’s diving grab in the fifth kept Topsail from rallying.

Nick Serbio came on in relief in the 7th, earning a save by retiring three Pirate batters in order (two by strikeout) to seal the win.

“My slider was working really well. I felt really confident throwing it at any point in the count, and that’s exactly what Coach [Kyle Molivas] called,” said Serbio after the Game. “I’m just glad I could help the team pick up this win.”

The victory over Topsail was possibly the biggest for the Colts  this season, but there’s another big one tonight. The team will be at home for their last game of the season against the Midway Raiders, here they will be looking to have a 4 game winning streak going into the Playoffs.
