On Monday, April 27th, our Lady Colts traveled to Terry Sanford for the conference decider and the most important game of the season.

Before this game, the Lady Colts were sitting at second and had to win this game to keep their conference dreams alive. The Lady Colts won conference the last 5 years and they did not want that streak to end this year.

The first half was a back and forth game with both teams having good chances. Sophomore Ava Luchetta set the tone by scoring an incredible goal from way outside the box. Terry Sanford would later score off a mistake by the Lady Colts to tie up the game 1-1 at the half.

After a throw-in, a Terry Sanford defender scored an own goal to give the Lady Colts the lead once again.

With the strong determination fueling this team, the Lady Colts held off the Bulldogs to win the “Battle of the Blues” rivalry and to secure the conference title.

The celebrations were in store as this was the Lady Colts’ 6th conference title in a row.

Following their huge win, the Lady Colts next took on Scotland High school for the second time this season. It was also Senior Night here at Cape Fear. The Colts have 9 seniors this year including, Bri Birdlow, Abbikate Daughtry, Santa Saripo, Kayleigh Jacobs, Dani Fick, Jayla Penebacker, Nariyah Hair, Hannah McGill, and Emma Parson.

The Lady Colts started the first half strong with many opportunities to score. The Colts capitalized on these chances and were able to put in 7 goals to make the score 7-0 at halftime.

With the Lady Colts looking to finish the game with a mercy rule, they continued to fight hard in the second half. The Lady Colts eventually got the two goals they needed to end the game with 15 minutes remaining.

Seniors Kayleigh Jacobs, Bri Birdlow, Dani Fick all were able to score a goal to make this senior night even more special. Senior and team captain Hannah McGill had herself a very memorable night, scoring a hat trick to cap off one of her last games on her highschool career.

This group of seniors have fought hard throughout the past 4 years to earn conference champions for all 4 seasons. Even through the ups and downs, these Lady Colts have worked hard to get the program to where it is today. These seniors will be missed dearly, but we are all hopeful for the bright future ahead of them.

With senior night over now, the Lady Colts must prepare for the postseason with playoffs starting very soon.

“Building some chemistry, some continuity within our play, and just being healthy, going into playoffs is key for us,” said head coach Brayn Pagan.

“We need to keep talking to each other and trusting each other and we will be fine in the playoffs,” said senior Kayleigh Jacobs.

The Lady Colts have a big game with Lee County High School in Colt Country on Wednesday May 6th to wrap up the regular season.
