Being a teacher takes preparation, patience and hard work. Teachers have to plan lessons, prepare activities, help students and make sure their classrooms are ready every day. Mr. Stout works to make his classroom a place where students can be curious and involved instead of simply listening to a lesson. 

Physical science can include many new words and difficult concepts, but hands-on activities can help students understand those ideas by allowing them to see them in action. His labs also give students opportunities to work together and develop teamwork skills that can help them both in school and in the future.

“Working together, the fact that he’s new, and he’s still very excited. I feel like I’ve gotten old and jaded, and I need to be reminded about that so that’s one of my favorite things,” said co-worker Ms. Stumbling Bear.

Outside of school, Mr. Stout enjoys spending time with his family and doing some of his favorite activities. He likes fishing, playing Marvel Rivals and spending time with his kids. When he isn’t just teaching or preparing for class, he enjoys being able to relax and make memories with his family. These hobbies give him the chance to step away from the classroom and enjoy time doing the things that he loves. 

Mr. Stout’s interests also give students another way to get to know him outside of being their science teacher. Whether he is talking about fishing, playing a game or spending time with his kids, students get to see a more personal side of him. His personality and interests help him connect with students and show that there is more to him than what they see in the classroom. 

When asked what advice he would give to his students, Mr. Stout kept his answer short and direct: “You will have to lock in at some point.” 

His advice reflects the importance of students taking their education seriously while still finding ways to enjoy their time in school. Through his teaching style, labs and connections to the real world, Mr. Stout shows students that learning does not have to be boring.

“Mr. Stout is a teacher that pushes me to do my best, and always helps me to succeed in everything that I do,” said Jocelyn Garcia Sophomore. 

Although Mr. Stout is only in his second year at Cape Fear High School, he has already become a teacher who works to make science active, interesting and enjoyable. His hands-on labs give students the chance to do more than read about science; they get to see it, test it and explore it. Congratulations on being selected for teacher of the week!
