Nicolle Owens, known for her bright and bubbly personality, has been chosen for this week’s Journalist of the Week at Cape Fear High School. She’s kind, loud, loyal, and loving towards her peers. When the journalism staff needs her, she’s always there for them and up to the task. Nicolle loves the way the staff works together to publish new articles and the daily news every day. As she learns from her peers, she also learns to grow into her own leader.

Nicolle, a 15 year old sophomore, is in charge of reporting on our Cape Fear girls tennis team. She wants others to know more about tennis as a whole, the team, and how our girls work together to win each and every match. She loves interviewing the girls, getting to know them, and hearing what they have to say about the games. She says what makes her a good journalist is “asking the girls good questions and letting their thoughts be in the article.”

Nicolle describes herself as bubbly and “out there.” As she walks the halls, Nicolle stays calm, bright, and happy. She lets her light shine on to others as she spreads the mood and raises people’s spirits. She’s ”out there” with the will to make new friends and getting to know others as she tries new things and creates new experiences.

In school, Nicolle keeps a smile on her face as she roams the halls. She keeps up with school work while juggling with her home and social life, as well as her social media presence. Nicolle participates in Chorus, FFA, SGA, Beta club, and Colts for Christ. She tries to contribute to her school as much as possible.

Nicolle’s social media presence is a big part of how she stays connected with the world around her. She posts about the event in her life, whether it be about herself, with friends, or with family. 

Nicolle enjoys hanging out with her father. They go out to eat and do fun things together. Although they may not like the same things, they still try to make time for each other. She doesn’t have any pets, but if she says –

“I’d probably want a bunny because I think they’re just so cute; I just love to see them hop around my room.”

Nicolle uses her connection with friends to get her interviews done. If she already knows the person, it makes the interview feel more like a talk between friends instead of an investigation. Her social life contributes to her journalism career just as much as her home life does. Nicolle finishes her articles at home, where it’s quiet and peaceful, giving her space to think about how to make her articles even more interesting and captivating.

Nicolle Owens is an amazing student, journalist, and friend. She loves what she does and is ready for the next task at all times. She has contributed so much to her team and we are so excited to see what she does next.
