The Colt volleyball team officially began conference play this past week, facing two tough opponents in their opening conference matches. The Colts traveled to Lumberton High School on Tuesday, September 8th, to take on the Lumberton Pirates before returning home to face the Purnell Swett Rams. The team finished the week with one loss and one victory, giving them a strong start to conference play, leaving them currently 1-1 and 7- 4 for the overall season.

On September 8th, the Colts traveled to Lumberton High School to face the Pirates. The team battled fiercely throughout the match, but ultimately fell to the Pirates in three straight sets. The set scores were 18-25, 21-25, and 19-25. Despite the loss, the Colts continued to compete and work together, showing determination as they began their conference schedule.

The Colts returned home to face the Purnell Swett Rams. The team responded with a strong performance, defeating the Rams in three straight sets. The set scores were 25-14, 25-20, and 25-8. The victory gave the Colts their first conference win of the season and provided an important boost heading into the rest of conference play.

“Because we started off slow in conference last week with a loss to Lumberton, Purnell Swett was a good game to get our confidence back. I think we played an overall strong game and got the chance to run multiple plays in the second and third set . We are just getting in the groove of playing some harder competition so we will come back stronger this week when we play grays creek and midway,” said starting junior setter Sophia Wilson.

After splitting their first two conference matches, the Colts are ready for another busy week with three matches in three consecutive days. On Tuesday, September 15th, the team will travel to face the Gray’s Creek Bears. The Colts will then return home on Wednesday to take on the Midway Raiders before traveling to Terry Sanford High School on Thursday to face the Terry Sanford Bulldogs.

With three conference matches coming up in one week, the Colts will need to stay focused, communicate effectively, and continue playing with the same intensity that has helped them throughout the season. As conference play continues, the team will look to build momentum, compete at a high level, and prove that the Colts are ready to make their mark in the 910.
