What makes someone truly interesting? Is it a hobby that sets them apart, a unique personality trait, or a passion that shines through everything they do? For this week’s student spotlight, Dana Murray shows that sometimes, it’s a combination of all three.
Dana stands out through her deep love of music, impressive knowledge of different genres, and appreciation for old-fashioned clothing. Her interests give her a unique sense of style and personality that naturally catches people’s attention. She seems to find inspiration in the sounds and styles of the past, bringing a sense of nostalgia into the present.
Dana is very passionate about her hobbies and the things she likes, whether it’s music albums, clothing, or even school. She always has something good to say about the things she loves, whether it’s music, clothes, or just the hobbies she enjoys. You can tell how much she cares about the things she’s passionate about, and that’s one of the things that makes Dana such an interesting person.
Dana has a very eccentric and charming personality that draws people to her. Her creativity shows in the way she puts together the best outfits, often combining vintage pieces with modern accessories in ways no one else would think of; she also states that she loves thrifting. She comes to school every day full of energy and enthusiasm, ready to take on new challenges and share her positive spirit with everyone around her. It’s impossible not to notice her vibrant presence in any room she enters.
She says that she wants to be as eye-catching and, in her words, “mystical” as one of her favorite artists, Stevie Nicks. Stevie Nicks gained the passion for music around age four, when she started performing with her country-and-western singer grandfather, and began her professional music career in 1966 when she joined the psychedelic rock band Fleetwood Mac. Dana states her favorite song by Stevie is the title track off of her hit album Bella Donna.
Music has always been a big part of Dana’s life, from being a little kid and listening to things like Taylor Swift and country (which she said she didn’t like) to listening to metal and rock. Dana states that it resonated with her on a different level than any other hobbies she had been doing at the time. “My dad introduced me to rock and roll, and that’s what started me on my love of music”, she states.
Along with music, she also enjoys Journalism a lot and has been doing it since her sophomore year of high school, and has been doing album reviews on her favorite artists in journalism for 2 years now. At first, she said that her heart wasn’t in it when she was doing regular articles for her school, as she didn’t enjoy it, but when she switched over and started to review albums, she says that she enjoyed it a lot. Dana said that it’s her passion, and she has accepted that she wants this to be her career, as she loves and enjoys doing it a lot.
Along with her hobbies, she also plans to go to college after high school, taking her love of music and writing with her and turning it into a career, but college doesn’t come easy. Dana is very consistent when it comes to her grades and education. She keeps up straight A’s and a very good relationship with students and teachers. She plans to major in communication with a minor in journalism.
Starting with her first period of the day, journalism is taught by Mr. Grates. She has been taking classes in journalism for three years in high school, and it has fueled her passion even more, with a teacher like Mr. Grates to help support her dreams even further. Mr. Grates also has the same music taste as she does, and this leads to a lot of conversations in class about music, ratings, and opinions! “She’s extremely intelligent and is a great person to have in the classroom”
For her second period, she is in the Chorus, which is taught by Mr. Hair. She has been doing it since 6th grade, and she enjoys it so much. She loves the art of music and singing so much and is very passionate about it.
To finish this article off, I would like to applaud Dana for her hard work and dedication; whether it’s her hobbies, schoolwork, or even her career, she always perseveres and moves forward in the right direction. This is what it means to be a good and interesting student. This is what it means to be a Cape Fear Colt.
