CFNN Reporters: Lilly Jordan and Contessa Williams
The athlete of the week reporters are here to keep you up to date on the star athletes Cape Fear has to offer. This week’s male athlete of the week is freshman football, basketball, and baseball player, Tres Daughtry. Continue reading to learn more about Tres!
Freshman, Tres Daughtry, is already making his mark in high school football and basketball and soon-to-be baseball. Although he is just starting out, Tres has already shown his skills in football as a quarterback and basketball as a combo guard, leading the JV basketball team in steals per game and free throws per game. In last week’s basketball game versus Jack Britt, Tres scored 10 points in the fourth quarter. The game was tied 39 – 39 with under a minute left when Daughtry hit a big three and free throw securing the 43 to 39 conference win!
Sports are something very familiar and have been a way of life for Tres since an early age. His biggest supporter and motivator is his Dad, who pushes him to work hard to be the best student-athlete and leader he can be! Tres is hoping to graduate with a 4.0 GPA and represent the school to the best of his ability.
The shift from middle school to high school sports can be tough, “There is a lot more discipline and attention to detail here at Cape Fear. The coaches here preach “discipline” which I appreciate. The discipline really helps our teams and I grow,” Tres shares.
Daughtry also really enjoys Coach Thomas’s weight lifting program and says it has helped him improve tremendously.
Being a three sport athlete while being a student must be tough, but Tres handles it well! Daughtry informed us it takes lots of preparation such as physical and mental conditioning to handle the quick transition from football, to basketball, then to baseball. Tres really does strive to be the best he can be. Daughtry’s pregame routine consists of drinking a protein shake and praying. As a student athlete, Tres also participates in Cape Fear’s Colts for Christ.
Aside from sports, Tres also enjoys reading, playing video games, and hanging out with his friends. When hanging out with his friends they enjoy going to the movies, working out, and going to sporting events. His favorite video games to play are NBA 2k25, Warzone, and College Football ‘25. Tres enjoys reading about a wide variety of topics, but his favorite thing to read about is entrepreneurship.
Tres Daughtry isn’t just a talented and dedicated athlete, he is also a kind, funny, and dedicated friend with strong values. He sheds light on every room he enters and has a bright future ahead of him. Cape Fear is lucky to have such a promising young athlete representing us! We can’t wait to see what his future holds.
Tres wants to thank all of the coaches, teachers, and administration for making the transition from middle school to high school “Smooth”! Stay tuned to Cape Fear’s News Network for next week’s athlete of the week feature!
