The Colts took to the diamond against the Terry Stanford Bulldogs on Tuesday night for what was sure to be a fantastic game. The latest edition of the “Battle of the Blues” did not disappoint and certainly lived up to the hype.

In a game that was scoreless through 6 and ⅓ innings, Terry Sanford was able to squeeze out a win in a hard fought game, winning 2-0 over our beloved Colts.

This was a highly anticipated match up against 2 of the top 50 teams in North Carolina. It was also a cross town rivalry game for the Colts and the Bulldogs with this game being the first of two in a series for the Battle of the Blues.

Though the Colts lost, they still had some big time performances from both Junior Outfielder Landon Underwood and Sophomore Pitcher Eason Turner.

Underwood led by example at the plate, leading his team going 3 for 4 in the batter’s box, along with 2 putouts in Tuesday’s game.

“I was really able to hit his fastball well with him throwing in kinda flat, when I made contact with the ball I really hustled it out to force their shortstop to try and make plays,” said Underwood. “We need to capitalize more with people on base and not leave them there like we did last night, and if Logan can keep their best players from getting on base, we can really capitalize on those outs.”

Eason Turner had an impressive outing, pitching the entire game for the Colts. Turner only allowed 3 Hits against the Bulldogs and kept them scoreless up until the 6th inning.

“The way I warmed up and took my time preparing for the game kept me comfortable going into the game,” said Turner. “I had confidence in my catcher that he would block every ball, and the defense was lights out. They made a lot of plays for us.”

Despite the loss, the Colts still played an incredible game Tuesday against a top ranked team and were able to double the Bulldogs’ hits at the plate.

“Our guys did a great job executing our game plan: we threw a lot of strikes, played clean defense, and attacked fastballs. Sometimes in baseball, the hits just don’t fall for you and that’s what happened to us last night, said Head Coach Jarrod Britt after the game. “I couldn’t be prouder of our guys for their focus and effort. They were locked in from start to finish.”

The Colts have a chip on their shoulder and will have a chance at redemption and to even out the series Friday, as the Terry Sanford Bulldogs will travel to Colt Country for the rematch of the Battle of the Blues.
