The Lady Colts took to the hardwood Friday night for the first time this season in their home opener. Although they came up a bit short in their first game against E.E Smith, there was a large crowd on hand, expectations were high, and the girls performed well. Unfortunately, the Lady Colts ended the game on the short end 66-46.

The Colts started strong, scoring 9 points to open the contest. E.E. Smith was forced to call a timeout almost immediately, setting the tone for the Colts. With their energy high, the Colts were confident on their home court.
¨First quarter we started out really good, I thought we handled the pressure pretty well,¨ said Head Coach Brian Graham
The Colts shooting cooled off in the second quarter, as E.E. Smith heated up, scoring 22 points to the Colts 9 in the quarter.
¨The second quarter was the difference in the game because in the third and fourth quarters both teams were even in scoring.¨ Coach Graham said.
By half time the Colts were down 7, and they couldn’t muster up enough offense to cut into the Bulls lead.
¨We suddenly stopped getting offensive rebounds, it was difficult to score if we couldn’t get any rebounds which messed us up.¨ Junior Samara Britt said.

Coming back in from half time the Colts were eager to score. The girls played with high intensity. It quickly became a head to head game, as the Colts cut the lead to 5 points. The Golden Bulls answered quickly and continued their hot shooting into the third quarter, shooting left and right until Coach Graham was forced to call a timeout to regroup.
As the Colts pushed to come back in the fourth quarter, they were assessed a technical call for attempting a 6th timeout, causing some frustration among the Colts.
¨When everyone becomes frustrated we just end up falling apart.¨ Samara Britt says.
¨We played well,” said Sophomore Kayia Starling. “We put up quick shots and scored, but couldn’t get back on defense in time on a few possessions.¨
Overall, the Lady Colts played an outstanding game and learned what they can improve on throughout the season.
¨The girls never gave up, they fought to the very end,” said Coach Graham. “We faced a very good basketball program in E.E. Smith, it was a good test for us!”
